Postnatal Care for Mother

After giving birth to a new born baby, every mother will feel tremendous joy, but putting all the attention to the baby, it is also not to forget the postnatal care, between the first 6 to 8 weeks, at this time, mother need this period to have adequate rest, balanced diet and inner health, to concentrate on rest so to let the body recover quickly.

 

 Tips for Postnatal Care:

 

1. Adequate Rest

 

At the time of giving birth mothers will use a lot of energy and bleed a lot, this will cause the body to feel really tired, besides taking good care of the baby, mothers must have sufficient time to rest, to minimize manual labor. Adequate rest and sleep to the body to recover quickly and have enough energy to take care of their new born.

 

 

2. Balance Diet

 

After giving birth, mothers should pay special attention to a balanced diet; eat more nutritious foods, such as: meat, fish, eggs and dried beans, etc., and should drink more water, eat more fresh fruit, vegetables and food that contained iron and calcium. In the early stage of postnatal, do not eat too much spicy food, such as: ginger, vinegar, wine and ginseng, etc., prevent the possibility of postpartum hemorrhage.

 

 

3. Pay attention to personal hygiene

 

As the infant's resistance to disease is weak, with the regular contact between baby and mother, to avoid bacteria infected to the baby, mother should maintain a good personal hygiene is very important.

Natural childbirth in postpartum mothers can shower and shampoo as usual, in addition, pay special attention to room temperature and water temperature, so as not to catch a cold. After shower mother should immediately dry the body with a towel and blow dry the hair with a hairdryer.

Caesarean section in mothers can also follow medical advice for cleaning.

 

 

4. Taking Care of the wound

 

Perineal wound will naturally dissolve to close the wounded area. After 1 to 2 weeks the wound will heal. During the first few days of postnatal period, there will be a little painful feeling; doctors will prescribe painkillers to reduce the pain.

Mothers should keep the wound clean, every time after using the toilet, rinse the wound area, and change sanitary protection to keep the wound dry to prevent bacterial infection.

As for the caesarean section, usually 5 to 9 days after surgery doctor will take out stitches. Under normal circumstances, after this procedure no cleaning to the wound with a disinfectant, but must keep the wound area clean and dry.

 

 

5. Good toilet habit

 

As the wound is still recovering, mother may have pain when urine, they should drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water a day and eat more fruits and vegetables to avoid constipation caused by bowel problems.

When going to toilet, be more relax.

 

6. Perineal muscle exercise

 

Try to do some perineal muscle exercise regularly, maintain flexibility, to prevent urinary incontinence, restoring body, and promote blood circulation, vitality and confidence.
