New App Parents Get Silent Night

It could be the answer to every new parent's dream - a simple way to get a good night's sleep.

Now, a British brother and sister based in San Francisco say they have the answer.

Quiet Night is an app and a toy that learns what kind of music children like - and can keep them entertained.

The project raised over $30,000 in just 24 hours on Indiegog.

It comes in two parts, a free app and a toy children pull to play music.

Ben and Hermione Way,34 and 29, the pair behind the project, say it was inspired by work undertaken at Bristol University 20 years ago.

'About 8 years ago I was approached by a professor at Bristol University, Tom Troscianko, about the idea,' Ben tol dailymail.com.

'He spent 20 years researching this, and said it could use music to help- children develop their brain faster.

'By learning what a baby likes and giving them control, they get more engaged, learn faster.

'He said there was a side effect, that it reduces crying by 50% - they interact with this instead of calling parents.'

The pair developed the product - but months before it was due to launch, Professor Troscianko died suddenly, and the project was put on hols.

'Six months ago was speaking to design company, who said was crazy the idea was left - so my sister and I decided to resurrect it,' said Way.

It works using a specially developed smart handle.

'You have to have the handle to use it - when it is in the cot, the baby call pull on it, and it plays music.

'What Tom found was the longer baby pulled for, the more they liked the music.'

Quiet Night learns what the baby likes.

'At start, plays very simplistic music - but this evolves over time, and the idea is that by the end they'll be listening to Beethoven and Mozart.'

The gadget has already reached $30,000 of its $100,000 target after just 24 hours, and is expected to go on sale in October.

It comes preloaded with 125 songs, but you can download more, and the pair hope to license music from Disney and others to include.

Ben sister, 29 year old Hermione Way, recently has a baby, and has been testing the rpodt.

'I love my baby so much, and would do anything to stop her crying,' she said.

'All I really want is a good night's sleep - and this is why quiet night was invented.'

'A child as young as 4 months to 3 years old can use the device, however every child develops at a different rate some children can't pull the handle until month 6,' the pair's website said.

'Obviously every baby is different and your baby will still cry(especially when hungry!) the late and great professor Tom found that on average a night with Quiet Night will reduce typical crying by 30% in most babies and up to 50%.

'In some, he calculated that on average that was an extra hour of sleep for the parents.'

Children that used the device had a quicker preference for complex music which he believed is an indicator in brain development.
