Green Toys Stimulate the Imagination for Science

Known as “the Oscar of Design”, the Red Dot Design Award goes to 4M’s Green Science series this year, in recognition of its tremendous innovation and commitment to environmental consciousness. As pollution throughout the globe takes its toll, a concurrent trend towards greener living has taken root. Toy brand 4M focused on R&D in its Green Science, a toy series that spent 8 years in overall development, hoping that it would guide our next generation into embracing environmental protection and scientific knowledge.

In the past, the Green Science series has won numerous prestigious industry awards. But this time, it transcended the toy industry to win the Red Dot Design Award 2015 in the product design category. This is no doubt special recognition and encouragement for 4M’s designers.

Understanding the environment for a better future

Green Science is a creative and educational toy series that combines eco-friendliness and scientific knowledge. Every product in the Green Science series is designed around a green theme, such as generating power by natural means (wind, solar or kinetic energy). At the same time, kids will also learn about the worsening issues of global warming and that natural resources are being used up. 4M’s Senior Designer, Ricky Wong mentioned that Instilling knowledge of environmental protection in children is the first step towards improving our future environment. He hopes that kids are able to learn ecological knowledge from a small age through toys which are both fun and inspirational.

Turn waste into toys with creativity

4M’s Design Manager, Bonnie Mak added that what we believe to be waste can be turned into small gadgets! Things such as empty cans or plastic bottles and used compact discs may have little value. But other than throwing them out, what else can we do with them? One of the Green Science products, Eco Science Toys, was designed to encourage kids to learn how to recycle things, inculcate environmental consciousness and lead them to viewing our resources from a new perspective.

Learning About Science by Trial-and-Error

Most parents believe scientific theories are difficult and beyond a child’s mind. But through the Grow-A-Maze game, they learn about the basic elements that help plants grow: water and sunlight. This propels children to become aware of the pollution around them and understand the importance of greening our environment. This new generation is obsessed with electronic products and pursues only victory. But failure is an important element when it comes to children’s learning. We believe this Eco Science toys not only fostered her child’s patience, but also developed her ability to observe and solve problems.

These aren’t just toys! Let’s play with creative Green Science toys – you too can become a scientist in no time!
