Is it possible to get pregnant for hepatitis B carriers?

In Hong Kong, with every 9 individual will have 1 hepatitis B carrier. Hepatitis B is a viral disease caused mainly by the carriers spread through blood and body fluids. These deadly viruses kill most of the liver cells and damage the liver function. Some infected people will become carriers for life; the future is more likely to develop chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and even liver cancer.

When a pregnant woman is hepatitis B carrier, the fetus in her womb may not be infected, but when the baby was born, the mother's blood and secretion of fluid will be exposed to the baby, so that 80%-90% of infants will expose to the chance of having hepatitis B virus. Usually new born will immediately inject with globulin to protect from the hepatitis B virus. Because of this pathogen incubation period is very long, so if the newborn got the immune globulin injection within 72 hours will be protected and the shot will be effective. However, the immune globulin injection is only a temporary medication, infant still need a continuous hepatitis B vaccination to resist the future hepatitis B bacteria. These vaccinations are separate into 3 injections, the parents need to specify a date according to doctors to take their children vaccinated, and the chance for the children to be infected with hepatitis B will be greatly reduce.

If the mother is hepatitis B carriers, and liver function tests are normal, there is no need to get worry, just pay attention to baby has been vaccination. If the mother wants to feed the baby with breast milk is also possible.
