What is HFMD ?

Hands, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a very common and moderately contagious sickness. It is a human syndrome caused by intestinal viruses of the Picornaviridae family. The most common strains causing HFMD are Coxsakie A virus and Enterovirus 71 (EV-71).  HFMD is spread through direct contact with the mucus, saliva, or feces of an infected person. It typically occurs in small epidemics in nursery school or kindergartens, usually during the summer and autumn months. The usual incubation period is 3–7 days.

 

Sign of Symptoms

 

In early stage signs of fever will continuous for a few days.

 

Limbs will shown:

 

 Symptoms may include rashes on body; mainly appear on palms and feet, appearances red dot looking with no signs of itchy feelings. These rashes usually last for 7-10 days and will subside. In the case of serious condition, virus will go to the brain and heart but these symptoms are not common.

 

Headache

Fever

Malaise

Fatigue

Vomiting

Malaise

Diarrhea

Sore Throat

Painful Oral Lesions

 

 

How to Prevent HFMD?

 

Keep air fresh and open circulation.

 

Wash both hands thoroughly before and after eating, after finish any toilet businesses and cleaning up dirty diapers or other personal works.

 

Coughing or sneezing should cover nose and mouth.

 

Using 1 to 99 cleaning detergent or alcohol for all living areas, including children’s toys, after wait to dry up, finish using clean water to wipe clean.

 

All children and parents when attending school classes should use cleaning detergent to wash both hands and record for any fever.

 

If any signs of uncomfort or suspicion of students is advice to quickly go see a family doctor and rest at home.

 

 

*  A kind note* to prevent HFMD at the first place, a good habit of hygiene is the most important of all.
